A new and improved map and walking tour are currently in the process of being rolled out for the first of the year. Again, we welcome your suggestions and comments. Don't want to volunteer? Maybe you don't have the time. Have you been out and taken pictures at an event or just wandered around taking pictures of the flowers and landscape? We would love to add them to our collection and maybe use them to promote the BFCG (with credit, of course).

A few changes have been made to the overall layout of the website. We hope that it will aid in navigation of the site. The blackberry field is now closed and has been noted on the front page of the website.
Major changes for the office include changes in staff: Cassie Davis has joined us as the Program Assistant, Jeff Webb is currently the Interm Superintendent, both Dr. Stephen Garton and Chazelle V. have left us. The office is now closed for lunch from 12 noon- 1 PM, Mon- Fri. If you need plan to visit us during this time, please plan accordingly. The lobby will continue to be open for brochures, but staff will not be available.
Also, if you bring soil samples to the BFCG, please note the cost has risen to $8 per sample. Please try to bring them by during business hours Mon- Fri.
Contracts for rental facilities need to be made during business hours only. Facilitators may show facilities, but cannot create contracts. You may also refer to our website.

The blackberry field will open on June 1, 2009. Blackberries are $3.00 per pound. The field can be closed for field maintenance, inclimate weather, or field conditions (this includes being picked out for the day). The field can be picked out quickly at the beginning and end of the season.
The hours are from Mon - Sat 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM. Everyone must be out of the field at 4:00 PM. Buckets will be available most weekdays and after 12 noon in the main office. On Sat from 9:00 AM- 12 noon, buckets will be located in the annex.

Also, please note, the strawberry patch is now closed.
The strawberry field is now open Mon - Sat from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM or until the field is picked out. Berries are $2.00 per pound. Instructions for picking can be found on signs as you enter the gates. Please note that the field may not be open due to inclimate weather, field maintenance, or can close early due to field conditions. We take cash or check only, no debit or credit cards, please. Checks may be made out to BFCG, in the memo line write strawberries or berries. Thank you. Also, please be aware of stinging insects (bees, wasps, ants, etc).
The 15th Annual Sunday Supper in the Strawberry Patch will be held April 26, 2009 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. More information can be found here. Registration is requested.
The Herb Society is now meeting every month on the 3rd Thrusday. Come and join them starting at 6:00 PM.

The 15th Annual Spring Garden & Art Festival
is scheduled for March 21, 2009, from 9 AM - 4 PM. There will be art & craft vendors, plant vendors, gardening lectures, bamboo fiber spinning & weaving, kids events, & food. Some events are free, while some carry a small charge. Parking is $2.00 per car. *Please note: Some vendors do not take debit or charge cards. Events & times of events will be posted upon confirmation at our website and here on a later post.
Some not so good news to report for the festival. Due to the unusually cold weather we have had, the strawberry patch will not be open during the Spring Festival. The tentative date for the opening of the strawberry patch is the first part of April. We will update the hotline (912.921.5897), this blog(a later post), and the website as soon as the patch opens. Remember, we also hang a banner out on the fence when the patch opens.
On April 26, the Sunday Supper in the Strawberry Patch will be held. Reservations can be made for $20.00 per person. More information to follow as it becomes available.

New school field trips have been announced. They are available for public, private, and homeschoolers. Space is limited.
Information about the Rainbow Goddess Iris Collection and its collector, Stan Gray, have been added. This was the first year for the collection. The next few years as the collection establishes itself will be amazing to watch as the different varieties bloom and show what they can do in this area. Peak bloom for irises in this area is around April-May.
Pesticide training has been announced for August 18 and 25. For more information go here or call 912.921.5460. The cost is $10 per person/ per day, books not included. Cash or check only. To order your books call the UGA Ag Business Office at 706-542-8999. You may use a credit card to order your books.

Welcome to our two new staff members! Stewart Parker started as the Grounds Foreman and Luzbell Wood started as the new custodian.
Training for the new docent class has been announced. Classes will start September 10 at 9 AM. Classes will run every Wednesday from 9 AM - NOON until October 22, 2008. Need more information? Go here.
